• Solar thermal panels only heat water compared to photovoltaic panels which can generate electricity
• Solar water heaters require roof space to accommodate them although sometimes other areas can be utilised
• They obviously only function with direct sunlight, however, in Australia and NSW this is not a problem for the majority of the year
• Bad weather like rain or cloud will also obviously restrict their ability to generate hot water but battery storage options can overcome this
