Things To Consider When Having A Heat Pump Installed

  • Capacity - The equivalent of solar and electric hot water systems will all require the same consideration, mainly depending on the size of your home or business and how many people it needs to serve.
  • Solar Assisted - Do you want solar thermal panels on your roof to assist the heat pump’s efficiency and its use of electricity?
  • Space - Heat pumps are best left outside so do you have space for one? They can also be installed inside but only in certain spaces.
  • Noise - Heat pumps are noisier than regular gas or electric heating systems but low-noise models are available. This may be important if the only space is next to your neighbour's window.

The Benefits Of Heat Pumps

There are many major benefits of having a heat pump hot water system installed to replace your gas or electric system:

  • Efficiency (Massively Reduced Energy Costs)
  • Use Cleaner Electricity
  • Easy To Use
  • Long Lifespan (10 - 15 Years)
  • Reliability

What Is A Heat Pump How Does It Work?

A Heat pump looks like a hot water storage cylinder or tank and sits outside your property and is then connected to your hot water and or heating supply. A mixture of anti-freeze and water is pumped around the ground in a loop and absorbs the naturally occurring heat in the ground itself.

The water mixture is then compressed and runs through a heat exchanger (the efficient part) which then extracts the heat and transfers it to the pump itself. This heat is then transferred into your home hot water and or heating system with only a minimal amount of electricity required for its operation. It’s basically an air conditioner but in reverse.

Reasons To Get A Heat Pump Installed

If the above benefits weren’t enough plus the prospect of a rebate, then here are some more reasons to get a heat pump installed by CDL:

Can I run a heat pump with solar power?

Yes, if you have an existing solar power system CDL will inspect it and utilise this as the power source for a new heat pump. Alternatively, we can install rooftop solar thermal panels to power the heat pump and so further reduce your electricity costs

How do i find out if i qualify for a rebate for a heat pump in NSW?

All you have to do is give us a quick call and with some basic information, we will find out if you are eligible for a domestic or business heat pump rebate from the NSW govt in the Lake Macquarie or Newcastle areas. We will do this accurately and quickly and this could save you up to $1200 so it’s well worth giving us a call to find out.

How much does a heat pump cost?

Like any major household system, prices can vary dramatically. They also change all the time as do govt rebates. Prices can start from as little as $500 up to $3000 but don’t worry as CDL will be giving you an accurate quote on the system that best fits your needs

How long does a heat pump last?

They have about the same lifespan as an electric boiler which is about 10 - 15 years (compared to about 10 years for a gas boiler)

Are heat pumps easy to install?

Yes, as they usually sit outside there is less installation time required which reduces the overall cost

What are the downsides to a heat pump?

All hot water and heating systems have pros and cons so no one solution is 100% perfect. With a heat pump, the disadvantages are mainly two-fold.

• The first is that in very cold temperatures they become less efficient and so require more electricity (but still hugely more efficient than any other system.
• The second is that if the air filter becomes clogged or blocked it can quickly render the system useless but simple care and maintenance will easily avoid this issue (aircon systems have the same issue).
• The last issue is cost, the relatively high upfront cost is more than gas or electric systems but the reduction in energy bills more than makes up for this, especially considering current price rises and the 15-year lifespan of a heat pump

What is the installation cost of a heat pump?

CDL have a very competitive fixed price cost of just $660 (inc GST)
